EXCAVATOR ATTACHMENTS
FOR Pennsylvania.
For a Pennsylvania wooded-property project, removing a stump and preparing the ground afterward are different jobs. Start with the required end condition: roots removed, loose debris sorted or soil excavated. Then match the attachment to the machine and the material instead of choosing by bucket width alone.
Plan the transition from wooded ground to usable space.
Use this guide to compare tools for woodland excavation · stumps · sorting. The state context below explains the applications; your machine, material and required finish determine the final attachment. These are selection recommendations, not statewide sales rankings.
PRIMARY
RECOMMENDATIONS.
Compare the task each attachment performs, then open the product to review its approved model, fitment, options and lead time.

Stumper
Consider a stumper when roots must be severed and a stump removed before excavation. Share stump diameter, species when known and the space available to work around it.

Excavator Grapple Rake
Choose gripping and open-tine separation when the next step is sorting loose branches and roots while leaving loose soil behind. It serves a different purpose from a bucket that retains material.

Severe-Duty Digging Bucket
Use a digging bucket for moving soil and forming the excavation after clearing. Select the working width and teeth around the soil, rock content and carrier capacity.

For a Pennsylvania woodlot, should I buy a stumper, grapple rake or digging bucket first?
Start with the task currently stopping progress. An intact root system points toward a stumper; already-loose roots and branches that need sorting point toward a grapple rake. A digging bucket becomes the priority when you need to retain and move soil. If most work is excavation with occasional log handling, discuss a compatible thumb instead of assuming you need a dedicated clearing attachment.

INQUIRE.
- Describe what the finished area will become: a building pad, access route, landscaped area or retained woodland.
- Separate the largest stump size from the typical size; one oversized stump should not be the only detail in your equipment brief.
- For rock mixed with soil, include photos and explain whether you need to retain fines or separate them.
- If you already use a quick coupler, send its make, model and mounting details along with the excavator information.
- Always provide machine make and model, coupler type and required pin-on measurements. See the measurement guide →
