EXCAVATOR ATTACHMENTS
FOR Michigan.
For Michigan woodland and property work, compare repeated log placement with mixed brush cleanup and root removal. A thumb can complement the bucket already used for excavation; a grapple rake provides a dedicated gripping and sorting tool. Representative material photos help establish reach, width and mounting requirements.
Choose gripping control around the wood you actually handle.
Use this guide to compare tools for woodland cleanup · log handling · root removal. The state context below explains the applications; your machine, material and required finish determine the final attachment. These are selection recommendations, not statewide sales rankings.
PRIMARY
RECOMMENDATIONS.
Compare the task each attachment performs, then open the product to review its approved model, fitment, options and lead time.
Progressive Link Thumb
Compare the extended working arc of a progressive linkage for repeated picking and placing. Provide bucket width, tooth layout and coupler details so contact and clearance can be reviewed.

Excavator Grapple Rake
Gather and grip loose branches or roots while allowing loose soil to pass through. Match the working width to access and the size of material being handled.

Stumper
Address root systems that must be removed before the next operation. Describe stump sizes and ground conditions rather than treating loose log handling and rooted material as one task.

For Michigan log handling, should I choose a progressive link thumb or a grapple rake?
Consider a progressive link thumb when the existing bucket must keep doing excavation between pickups and a wider gripping arc is useful. Consider a grapple rake when repeated gathering and separation of loose woody debris is the main job. Neither increases the carrier’s rated lifting capacity. Send log sizes, bucket and coupler photos, and hydraulic details to compare the complete setup.

INQUIRE.
- Provide typical log length and diameter, plus photos of irregular pieces.
- For thumb fitment, show the existing bucket, tooth arrangement, coupler and full linkage.
- State whether the job involves loose wood, rooted stumps or both, and identify any frozen ground.
- Confirm auxiliary hydraulic specifications; hoses and hydraulic lines are not included in hydraulic product orders.
- Always provide machine make and model, coupler type and required pin-on measurements. See the measurement guide →
